A superior quality finish with greater performance than painting or hot-dipped galvanising.
Our Thermal Spray Zinc Aluminium Alloy Coating provides a reliable, long-term corrosion protection to steel structures which exceeds the durability of the coating as determined under AS2312.2002.
How does Thermal Metal Spray work?
Thermal Metal Spray is two metal wires consisting of Zinc and Aluminium that are melted by an electric arc in the gun and sprayed using compressed air onto the substrate. These splats are propelled onto the substrate solidifying into a highly protective metal coating. The coating is a 85/15 Zinc/Aluminium Alloy by volume. It forms a mechanical bond to the substrate creating high adhesion coating. The formed metallic coating protects the steel from corrosion by both barrier and sacrificial coating.
Basic sprayed properties: Coating thicknesses: 100-300μm Coverage: 0.8kg/m2/100 microns (Approx.)
Surface preparation is a very critical step prior to the Thermal metal Spray being applied. All surfaces are grit-blasted to SA 2.5 standard with a minimum profile of 65μm – 85μm.
The battle against corrosion is an ongoing struggle. When metals are exposed to air and water, rust forms which cause the coating to diminish slowly. Fortunately, the Thermal Spray Zinc Aluminium Alloy 85/15 process provides an effective method of protection for these metals by providing an anti-corrosive/rust-preventative coating.
What are the benefits of Thermal Spray Zinc Aluminium Alloy
- Major Increases in longevity and protection from wear and corrosion damage. Outperforms Painting and Hot dipped Galvanising under ASTM B117 testing.
- The coating has high heat resistance.
- Low heat input when spraying – eliminates the risk of component distortion and the risk of thermal metallurgical degradation.
- Control of Coating Thickness. Coating thickness can be varied to provide increased protection in critical areas.
- It is superior to the durability under AS2312.2002 to Hot Dipped Galvanising
- Metal Spray Coatings are solvent and VOC free.
- Low Energy Consumption and minimal Waste by products compared to Hot Dipped Galvanising.
